As much as I hate to say it, I see this being a very tough game. It would be nice to cruise in this one, but I'm not counting on it. If memory serves, Goudelock has not shot the ball up to his usual standards against these guys.

Great win for the Dogs, should have been 2 but the SOCON screwed us making it a "neutral" game.

Congrats on the win. We split on the season. Hustla, you came over and took your lumps on the smack board after the loss so enjoy it. Good win, and I'll man up and congratulate you. NO other cid fan posted after y'all lost the last one so as far as I'm concerned the rest can STFU or grow a pair after a loss. I assume they'll flood the board anyway.

The sky isn't falling but...
As some have been saying this game was the precise blueprint on how we can lose in Charlotte.
What will define this team is how they play the Citadel next time. If there is a next time.
You have to give credit to the Citadel they came out and took away the 3 forcing us to do something else and we did not look very comfortable doing it.
53% from the three that will not happen very often.
We on the other hand were abysmal. 23% thats with Breeden going 2-2 late and bringing up the numbers.

I for one am glad this game happened today and will hopefully not happen again this year.

Nothing new happened. Cid defended the perimeter exceptionally well and Urbanus caught fire from behind the arc. That late dagger sealed the deal for them. Chatt and Sam did not defend the three and we made them pay. This was good practice for the tourney. We will learn from it I'm sure. Now we have to work to stay in the driver's seat. Must defend our home court and defeat Furman and Wofford on the road. Not impossible, just a bit more challenging than before. Perhaps Woff and davy will drop some games and help us relax a bit...

Didn't you know the trolls would be on here 2 minutes after that win? Now go back to selling whatever type of insurance you sell to your fellow cid grads.....

Cold shooting and a few mental errors... couple that with Urbanus hitting everything and you get a bad result. I thought Conroy did a great job coaching too.

We need to get in gear quick or we're going to lose the 1st seed, and possibly the bye (should Davidson get hot).

this was the perfect game at the perfect time & the perfect outcome.

you know its ok when us fans get caught up in the exciting 3 pt fantasy, but for the coaches to get caught up in it over these past 5+ games is really embarrassing & speaks volumes about their capacity as coaches. i will continue to pray to the shooting gods because i don't see any other answer on the horizon from the bench.

I think Urbanus must have prayed a little harder to those shooting Gods than we did.

Of course, there's no good spin on this. But I'll try . . .

I'd much rather us drop this game and go into the tournament knowing that some nights (in Charlotte especially) we might face a team that decides to defend the perimeter; rather than go into the tourney thinking threes will always make up for being mediocre at other aspects of the game. So, yeah, thank you Citadel, for putting together two luke warm seasons in a row (in your great "100 year history of suck" [the title of my upcoming book on the citadel]) and helping our team improve before it really matters.

Go cougs! time to step up and win out!

Cassan leaves his feet at the end, Sundberg leaves Urbanas to help on the post twice........... You can't give good shooters that kind of window. He kocked down everything he got a look at so credit to him. I was more concerned how we got destroyed at the 4 spot tonight. Willis 9 minutes, Rashaad 0. Cid 4 man had 15 pts 6 boards (4 off). I won't comment on the 3 point shooting as we covered that in another thread and guys like numb, 17 and myslef get called out for being negative etc. I would love to see the ball go inside to Jeremy when possible and if he kicks it out and we have an open 3, then great but i would love to see that ball movement prior to the shot. I think we'll be ok after this loss and frankly this might benefit us and hopefully we change the "formula" of outshooting everyone. Jeremy looked a little more comfortable tonight which was a plus. I think we regroup and play well against elon (who has actually played well the last two games).

Is Wright hurt or just in the "dog house" (no pun intended)? It seems like he would have been an asset tonight against the much smaller Citadel team, but he didn't play at all. If fact his minutes played in the past 5 games are 3,7,2,3,0 - after equaling his season high of 18 in the win over UTC less than a month ago.

What's to spin, and why bother? We were out-coached, out-defended and out played tonight by a team that wanted the win more than a team that felt they were entitled to it. El Cid dictated the pace of the game and played the game according to their plan. Hats off the the Citadel. Hope our team learns from it.

110% agree with the pace thing. They controlled the tempo and we never looked comfortable...............

I think our staff's love of the three and Sundburg's hot hand as of late is the likely result of Wright's declining minutes. We don't seem to base playing time around here on defensive matchups ya' know.....

Rashad shouldn't play ever. Not sure why he wasn't redshirted, not even clsoe to ready for DI ball. He has not proven he can do anything... rebound, score, box out or even get in appropriate position for a box out. That being said we are a 7 man rotation and Sundberg needs less minutes. He is fine to shoot the occasional 3 but that being said, he does not have much game besides the very open look jump shot so he deserves 6-8 minutes tops. There is no reason to play deeper period. We should of grabbed the f'ing ball after the missed 3 bounced twiced that got thrown off twj... and Casaan should never have been guarding Urbanas for that dagger 3. The loss won't kill us but it certainly sucks to lose to those little bitches and hear about it, because right now they own our arena.

Rashaad is raw but sure can be a player in the Socon. He has had plenty of games where he has contributed good stretches. I don't think anyone thinks he should be getting 20 minutes but what's wrong with 5-7? The freshmen need to play a little to get better, clearly up 25 against chatty or samford called for minutes....................

Um, if I recall correctly Wright has been a good situational player for us; he's been huge in a couple games this year defending in-bounds passes. As far as red-shirting him, hindsight is always 20/20. Remember we started this year with a front line minus Wiggins, Johnson, Scott, Simmons (for one game) and replaced them with a guy that hadn't played a meaningful game in two years and a bunch of freshman. Go easy on Wright; he's just a freshman and he'll be fine.

Definately outhustled tonight like they wanted it more. Prime example of being outhustled and the key play to doom the Cougars at the end. We are 2 points behind. They shoot an air ball. Two Cougars watching it bounce out of bounds when they were right there and could have grabbed it. A Citadel player hustles over from way out and bounces it off Whites chest. They bring it in with 7 seconds left on the shot clock and we give them a wide open 3 to give them a 5 point lead. Told my wife we just lost the game because we did not grab that ball when we could have and were lazily going to watch it bounce off. Just one example of many I could point out but that was the key to the end of the game on this one. 6 0f 23 on 3,s tonight. 21 of 38 inside. All you 3 lovers take note. Yes you can win by the 3 but you die against almost anyone with it also. Elon last year hit any notes. That really did not beat us tonight though. being outhustled lost the game. In rstrospect though this team still a lot better than I thought this year. Still think next year is the year for the Cougars to really shine

Jupiter -

On the ELON point, they beat Western tonight. Which is good for obvious reasons, but a sign of how much they've improved (they've got a former McKillop assistant as head coach this year, so you know they're well coached). (Also, After tonight - pretty sure they'll be defending the 3 point line fairly aggresively)

On a completely different note (and tone):

Last year, when my cougar confidence was waning, I just hoped we'd get the easiest run we could to the dance. But honestly, this year . . . I want to earn it.

I hope we play Wofford at Ben Johnson on Febuary 25th in a game that decides the regular season title.

I want to catch Davidson in an early Charlotte round, and show McKillop (undeniably a great coach) that automatically starting whichever of his seemingly infinite number of children at point guard is horrible coaching.

More so, I hope we get the citadel [latent pansies who don't have the guts to admit that they went to an all-male, psuedo-disciplinary, dress-up, make-believe, peter pan, joke of a pretend army school for a very disturbing pyscho-sexual reason] in a late round in Charlotte. I want to openly mock all six citadel fans who drive to Charlotte when we wipe the floor with them in our next match up.

Win out, Cougs!

can't argue with ya......... I want a bye and to be healthy and it will be on us to "earn' our way. I do not fear any team in the Socon this year unlike in years past.
