I consider myself rather informed as pertains to higher education institutions in the US, but I seriously have never once heard of "Johnson C. Smith." Guess I'll have to google this sucker and see what the deal is.

edit: ok, so it's a HBCU that plays D2 ball. Good to know.

Question: when was the last time a CofC scholarship player transfered down to a D2/NAIA school? Have there been any since the school went D1?

Also, BC had lunch with JK & AJ today. AJ has donated $100.000 toward new arena. Way to go, AJ!!

Johnson C. Smith is a DII in Charlotte and is a member of the CIAA. Decent program, but out of all the places he could've gone, I have no idea why he chose there. There must be some kind of family connection to that staff. All of the facilities in that conference are some of the worst in the country at any level, plus I'm sure he could've gotten the same deal at a ton of lower DIs. If I'm not mistaken his dad currently works out of Atlanta.

Anything else interesting from the show?

We beat JC Smith 84-3 in football a couple of years ago. That was with our coach being nice, we could have scored 120. They are a D2 team out of North Carolina.

Here is a very important piece of info. Yes, AJ's $$$ are very good and a huge amount. BUT, we see the tandem of BC adn JK double teaming donors. What a 1-2 knowckout punch in the lowcountry. BC will pay his salary (so to speak) in increased contributions very quickly.

I, too, will contribute, but a much smaller amount. Much smaller!

Was that you that beat me to the punch asking about Scott. He did say Draper will probably see some point guard. I also liked what he said about if it is not working we will try things a different way and find a way to make it work and trying to play to each players strength. Sounded also like we may have a new signee or two for this year next week

Depth at guard is the big issue. If the potential signees are true guards, then everything will be ok. If it's more big men it won't really matter since the 5/4/3 are already stacked.

In answering the question he mentioned guards that can shoot and sounded like he may have found the same

ps: Sounded like he was also on top of the academic situation and the player/players in summer school did very well the first summer session and are on track the second one.

There was a snip about Scott and Garcia in the P&C this morning...just said we were down to 9 scholarship players. Cremins is looking to fill 2 and then leave one open for scholarship.

Regarding guys transfering down, some would include:
Zeke Johnson, released, finished career at Bowie State.
Leighton Bowie -- unusual circumstance.
Christian Anderson -- JUCO, CofC, Virginia Union (?).
Ryan Amestoy -- Clemson, CofC, Clayton State.
Donnelly McCants, released, finished at Kean.

Wow. Can't believe I forgot about my hometown boy Bowie. Even saw a couple of his FGCU games in person. Never quite made sense that he left that last year.

A combination of health (kidney) and personal/family issues caused Leighton to leave. I think he might have left even if Kresse had stayed on one more year. But I can't say that for sure.
He was a good, bouncy player, and a nice guy.

You won't normally find me Monday-morning coaching JK, but I would have gone to Leighton at the end of the low-scoring Furman semi-final SoCon tournament game at the Coliseum instead of Jeff Bolton. Leighton was playing lights out and would either have scored under the basket or been fouled and absolutely would have made the foul shot. Wasn't that the last C of C game for all 3 of the above?

Nice find, I especially like the Barney backpack. My roommate at the time always called Leighton "Psycho" because of the intensity he brought to the floor. I would get worried for him when he would miss a ft, thought he might punch himself in the head too hard and knock himself out.

Leighton Bowie was a genuine talent and (more importantly) a genuine guy.
Funny how we much we appreciate those qualities, nowadays, isn't it?
