Coug91. You are falling down on the job. Time to announce some new signings.

From Holy City Hoops: New CofC Assistant - Jermaine Ukaegbu
Was a player & grad assistant at Winthrop. Took the spot that
opened when Justin Gray became HC at W. Carolina.

Coaching staff is complete, now we turn to finishing out this roster.
Would like to see us add a transfer big man.

So currently we have 10 on the roster plus the most recent
commit - D. Underwood who has yet to sign for a total of 11 players.
3 on the roster are Grad Seniors that shouldn't count against the
scholarship total. If correct we have 5 ships +/- to give.

Was told he is only planning on signing 2 or 3 more as too many ships on the bench could become a cancer. Sounded like he does not want over 13 ships including grads.

Wonder why the last paragraph in that article left out Horton as a newcomer. Is he not coming now or was this an oversight. He is listed on the roster latest update.

So....

Lampten just became a JC All American.
Bolon is a D2 All American
Underwood is a D3 All American.

This is gonna be a really interesting experiment on how things translate on their way "up" the college basketball food chain.

Will we get back to where recruiting high school players is more important than the transfer portal? Just wondering.
Not unwilling to embrace change. Not an old fuddy-duddy.
It's the coaches who will have to figure it all out.
I would draw the line at players signing with agents.
I always believed the better conference you belonged to, the better players you'd be able to recruit, leading to better basketball to watch. I fear the name/image/dollars thing is going to lead even more to Power 5 teams having more opportunity to have dollars going to players.

The one off amnesty transfer is going to blow up College Basketball...
Be prepared to see guys get poached after 2 years.

So the idea of the kid that stays for 4 years like the big three did(Chealey, Brantley, Riller) is unlikely.

Kelsey's system seems less reliant on individual brilliance and more on a collective effort. Earl's plan on recruiting great players and chiseling them probably would really suffer.

We must be able to adapt.

Hope Smart and Tucker are coming back. See Grant signee Horton also still listed. With those 12 we have solid starters and back ups at every position. Would not even attempt to name the starters. On paper this team could be as good as any team we have ever had.

I’m not too worried about our ability to recruit and retain with the Kelsey staff coming on board. If you look at their history at Winthrop, they did not feel the effects of the transfer portal like most teams do. I’d say we have some sort of “retention specialist” on this incoming staff.

I think PK will sign one more but other than that, the roster seems set so might as well take a stab at the starting 5:

1 - Ali - only PG on the roster with any real experience
2 - Tucker - i think Tuck fits well into Kelseys up tempo system. Hoping for a bit more consistency in yr 3
3 - Meeks - Every pundit loves this signing and if he plays like he did last year (albeit limited) he will be our leading scorer
4 - Ben Burnham - Freshman with size and athleticism. have heard through the grapevine that this kid can play
5 - Osi - Only true 5 with NCAA minutes. But perhaps they play small

Thought Underwood was a point guard. He ave 6.5 assists last season. Sounds like pg numbers to me.

Kelsey's uses a different approach to roster building.
Last year 11 guys had double digit minutes. Only one with over 30 minutes.
There will be starters but the whole roster will see significant time.

Compare that to Earl NCAA team which had 4 guys with > than 30 minutes and a roster that really only saw 7 guys getting doubling digit minutes.

One can assume that this year is going to be even crazier, because Kelsey doesnt have anyone from his previous roster. So there is no one to base his squad off on. I anticipate there is going to be a of flux as Kelsey figures out which pieces work and which dont.
