A lot to be optimistic about at this time for the coming season.
1_A proven winner as a coach
2_ 7 players that started at their respective colleges last year. 4 of those div 1
3_ 3 All Americans while not div 1 elite players at their level.
4_ 1 tx 3 star and a true freshman 3 star. Good potential there anyway.
5_ 2 more true freshmen who many say are very good players.

Lots of experience and lots of potential. Could be best collection of players top to bottom we have ever had.
I know we could offer a few more ships but have heard he does not want extra players. Just a matter of how the team chemistry comes together now. I will be surprised if this is not a very good team by Jan.
Hope they are all in summer school and in the gym working hard.

Do we have enough ballhandlers to run Kelsey's tempo system?

Tucker and Ali are D1 players but still really green and both new to the system. I am not sure what we can expect from Reyne if anything this year.

Does Bolon have the athleticism to keep up even in short bursts. Obviously you are hoping you get Fletcher Magee/Luka Doncic(a poor mans version of those guys) but you may get a kid who cant physically keep up. Perhaps in a system like Northeastern's where it more craft and shooting, but this one? BTW I see his highlights and I am counting my blessings that Bill Coen didnt find this kid. He would have been a monster at NU.

Underwood seems more athletically there for D1. His dad was in the NFL so you assume there are proper bloodlines. Watching his highlights you scratch your head why did he go to D3. Though I think he grew.

I would have felt so much better if we had convinced Zep to stay(impossible I know). You have to assume we are still looking for a vet D1 established ballhandler.

The rest is future upside. It will take a season or two for them to come together

Totally agree about Kelsey. Much more creative than Earl on recruiting. Has an energy that will likely contrast well with the calmness of Earl in the short run

Here all but a couple players are here and working out. From my understanding of the rules a coach can work with 3 players at a time up to 2 hours a day and a maximum of 8 hours a week in the summer. Glad this many already here and working

Tuesday July 6th Aus vs USA in the FIBA u19 World Cup.

We will see how it goes. I think there may be some top prep talent there.

Smith scored 8 points and had 1 assist playing 14.5 minutes in his teams win over Mali today

Tough second game for Smith: 0-5 from the field (all from deep) in a 2-point loss to Turkey.

Big measuring stick game against Team USA today at 1:30 pm. Games are streamed here:

Kind of an up and down tournament for Smith. His 8 points, 3 assists and 0 turnovers against the US may have been his best performance. He scored 19 points in the second half in a blowout win over Puerto Rico, but struggled against other top teams like Spain and Turkey.

Overall though, pretty encouraging. Reyne doesn't turn 19 until late October and I thought he looked better than the other two incoming NCAA freshmen on his team (Blake Jones- George Mason, Leyi Adebayo-Princeton).

Just for fun a wild guess at starting lineup game 1.
1_Ali
2 &3_ In today's basketball this position interchangeable. Tucker and Bolon
4 Smart
5_ Lampton
Only one player I would rule out as a possible starter day 1 would be Faye

Its a fun exercise. Though with Kelsey I think we are employing platoons.

I think Meeks starts over Lampton with Osi at the 5.

The big question I see is who is the second units PG. Thats the only question about pairing Ali and Tucker together. Bolon? Underwood?
No one is going to be able to ironman the PG spot in Kelseys system.

Underwood ave 6.5 assists per game. Sounds like point guard numbers to me. A good argument could be made for most of this team to be starters. Not as high on Meeks as some. His scoring last season was against a small sample of teams last season and those games were against the weaker teams in his conference.

PS: There may be 12 players that could be named a starter on this roster. Depends on how some do at this level and chemistry on the court. This is a very deep roster

Has anyone heard about Ali? I haven’t seen him on any of the cofc social media pages and they haven’t updated his headshot on the roster. Wonder where he’s at?

Favor the idea of platooning

That surely seems to be the style of play! A little bit of a constant frenzy on Off & Def
with fresh players rotating in often. Last year at Winthrop only 3 guys averaged more than 20+ minutes a game and only 1 Player with more than 30+ min and he had the highest scoring average at 12 ppg. So there will be a lot of players getting minutes.

SC ProAm Basketball is a team tournament made up of current college players, with SC ties, with a few professionals. There are 6 teams. We have 4 of our player participating in it. The first games were yesterday. Bolon & Osi on the same team - Bolton 21pts & Osi 4 pts & 5 rebs. They won! In another game Horton’s (Brantley 21pts) team defeated Burnham’s team - Horton 12 pts & Burnham 14 pts & 6 rebs.

Bolton or Bolon?
PS:
Asking because it has been a few years since I saw Bolton mentioned
