There are still a few more weeks to go until the first game, so we can speculate on conference realignment dominoes.

The latest batch of realignments starting with Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC has trickled down to mid major basketball. A few recent moves include:

- Belmont (and possibly Murray State) leaving the Ohio Valley for the Missouri Valley
- Eastern Kentucky, Jacksonville State, and Austin Peay to the ASun
- Colorado State and Air Force reportedly in talks to go to the AAC
- Big 12 has invited Houston, Cincinnati, BYU and UCF

I'm not expecting CAA leadership to be proactive, but a JMU exit seems more and more imminent, especially if you read Shane Mettlen's work: https://www.dnronline.com/sports/jmu-vi ... 99a4f.html

Hopefully Charleston is making their pitch to other conferences and won't be left behind.

Definitely seems like JMU is gone.
They are the next domino to move to lower tier BCS football
Planning and angling for years.

I am not sure anyone comes in unless another full member leaves with them(Delaware would be the most obvious choice).

Furman and Wofford certainly seem like fits, but doubt there is interest there.

Florida Gulf Coast University and the University of North Florida would be good candidates to replace two football schools. It would add to the southern half and airline connections are good up the East Coast. Both schools do not have football and FGCU has been a Cinderella in March Madness.

The Big East is considering expansion. That would likely leave at least 1 opening in the A10, unless they are only talking about adding Gonzaga.

The AAC is in talks with FAU, Charlotte, North Texas, UTSA, Rice and UAB about leaving Conference USA to make the AAC a 14-team conference. If I'm Memphis or Wichita State, this move would leave me... less than impressed.

So JMU gone.
They had previously felt the MAC was a better fit but probably did not want to risk missing on one of the last tickets out of FCS.

UNCG? Can they maintain the momentum with Wes Miller gone. Hadnt done squat before him, but Mike Jones is a legit hire.

Sounds like the JMU departure leaves the CAA in a bit of an existential crisis.

The next shoe to drop would be the Big East raiding the A10 again and calling up VCU, Dayton. Then you could try and reshuffle the A10/CAA into basketball and non basketball conferences.

En lieu of that happening I think our best option is to bring in UNCG and either Furman or Wofford.

Worried about some northeasterly wasteland like Stony Brook or Albany.
Yuk.

CUSA maybe losing 2 more to the MAC. They may just end up disbanding at this point.

It's official, JMU gone and won't be allowed to compete in any conference championships.

in that case, I think the regular season champ would be whoever finishes second to them. So if that team lost the conference tourney they would automatically go to the NIT. I doubt the conference would designate JMU conference champ since that would guarantee them an NIT bid. The NIT could still let them in as an at large though.

Quite the kerfuffle on the JMU board about not being allowed to compete this fall and next year championships.

They JMU knew the rules. They (JMU) disallowed others from competing in championships so.....kinda deaf ears. What I don't know is if those other schools were disallowed for 1.5 seasons or 1 season.
Really don't care.
Find it amusing the thinking on their board that twitter is reality.

I would like to see them add mercer, uncg, and one northern school (Vermont, Stony Brook?). May not see any movement on adding a school until the spring though.

I get the outrage, also get banning them. If the CAA leaders water smart they would have made an offer to JMU to have them stay eligible, like 3Mil extra to the exit fee. If JMU pays, great; if not then story becomes that's on them.

Someone on JMU board started that both Hofstra and Charleston supported JMU not being banned

I *think the rules are pre-defined and clear. JMU knew them and made the decision on when to leave. So.....

1. Read your contract
2. Twitter is not reality

A10 added Loyola Chicago, that puts them at 15. That's an interesting development.

Beat me to it Ego

Interesting gamble by the A10.
They do not have a really strong recent basketball track record. Prior to Porter Moser, who left last year for Oklahoma), they hadnt made the tournament since the 80s.
They obviously bring in a major metro area.

Apparently the person who broke the story denies that the A10 is being poached by the Big East by I find that hard to believe.

Either that, or they plan on adding 1 more
